What can we say walking in God’s righteousness?

  • Proverbs 15: 9 “the way of the wicked is an abomination to the lord but he loveth him that followed after righteousness.

As you can see in that verse that we are able to follow God’s righteousness when we accept Christ into our hearts then we can become the righteousness of God.

Pursing righteousness what does that mean? what does it look like?

Righteousness to me, means to be in right standing with God,

What does right standing with God look like.

When we look at the life of Saul and David we see two men who made a mistake both men at one point in time where right with God, even if even one was chosen and one was sort off force upon Israel.

(1 Samuel 15 -3).

When Samuel told Saul what the lord commanded of him to do.

Saul mistake was that he kept the spoil of war when he was told not.

The kingdom was stripped from Saul. 1 samuel 15 : 28.

When we read (acts 10 34- 35 – God is not a respecter of persons which HE himself puts you up he can easily bring you down), as you can see because Saul was disobedient God removed him from the kingdom.

As acts 10 34 – 35 says God is not a respecter of persons, so because you might think that God put me in this position and I have free will to do what I put it does not work like that because God does not care who you are as long you obey God he will knock you down. In saul case he had only one chance and he lost it.

You might be wondering Saul and David both committed sin and all sin is separation from God no matter how big or small unless you come to God with a repented heart like David did.

David on the other hand had blood on his hands, you would think that David would be the one condemned but he wasn’t.

The difference in that situation was that they both had different reaction of being confronted with the matter of their sin. Samuel had confronted Saul about this disobedience. all In 1 Samuel 15: 14 .

Saul reaction was 1 Samuel 15 20

Likewise, the same thing happened with David when he too was confronted with his sin from Nathan 2 Samuel 12 - 9 & 13 (David looked for God righteousness by admitting he had sinned against the lord.)

That was just a brief example .

We can pursue our righteousness by beginning to understand that we are not pleasing to God because of our sin Isaiah 64 6 “but we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags”.

I wrote down ways we can pursue righteousness

Walk in the spirit

When Paul wrote about the fruits of the spirit in Galatians 5:22-23 (love, joy, peace patience , self-control etc.) those are the things that are needed in other to show our pursuit of righteousness to others.

Who can remember when tammy spoke about” keep shining” and she used the example of when she walks at night and she uses the torch from a phone to see the paths and other people follow her light or use their own torch, this are part of the things needed in other to allow people to follow our lights. Good fruits grow more good fruits.

Our choices affect the people around us. When we show that altitude as well it encourages people in the walk as well.

*2*. Invite wisdom (Might not talk about it)

We all need wisdom, God places great value in wisdom inasmuch that he wants you to ask specifically ask for it. James 1: 5, even though wisdom is not part of Paul fruits of the spirits, I do believe that when we seeking Godly wisdom is an evidence of righteousness but it is useful for our everyday life’s situations.

Wisdom can help us know the right thing to say and how to carry ourselves in difficult situations.

3. Seek his presence

for things to get done it requires showing up, we need to seek the presence of the LORD every day.

Conclusion

To be in right standing with God, we have to obey God, allow Him to direct where we stand in all things, and when we mess up and get off track we must humble ourselves as David did and allow Him to redirect us. For only then will His great favour fall on you that you be able to avail much for the kingdom of God. .

Always remember this scripture acts 10 34-35
